Western Water Polo Association – UCSD Tops Wagner, Moves On to Face USC in NCAA Quarterfinals

STANFORD, Calif. — The Tritons have cleared their major hurdle.

Now they’re sprinting ahead for more.

The University of California San Diego women’s water polo team defeated Wagner in the National Collegiate Water Polo Opening-Round contest on Tuesday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center.

With the victory, UC San Diego (22-13) advances to face No. 1-seed USC in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 10, beginning at 12 p.m. PT.

Senior Shelby Stender scored four goals, sophomore Sydney Boland scored twice, while sophomore goalkeeper Bennett Bugelli was once again spectacular in the net to earn the win.

Senior Chanel Schilling, junior Jessee Ransone and the sophomore group of Ciara FrankeGrace Pevehouse and Taylor Onstott each scored one goal apiece.
