Devine performance from NZ star helps Strikers progress to WBBL Grand Final

05 player of the tournament Sophie Devine has starred with bat and ball to help the Adelaide Strikers reach their maiden Grand Final.

The Perth Scorchers failed to make the most of their chances, grassing multiple catches as they aim to defend 126 at Allan Border Field.

The Strikers were put on the back foot in their pursuit of 127, losing New Zealand international Suzie Bates in the second over. Bates was run out from gully, after setting off for a single and being sent back.

But Sophie Devine and Tahlia McGrath built a partnership worth over 50, gifted a number of lives after the Scorchers dropped attempts right around the ground.

Devine continued her strong season, reaching 65* to take her team into Sunday’s final.

Earlier, the Scorchers recovered from a dreadful start to post a reasonable total.

After losing the bat flip and being asked to bat first, Scorchers skipper Meg Lanning was put under pressure by star Adelaide Strikers international pair Megan Schutt and Sophie Devine.

Following two close LBW shouts, the Australian captain drove a delivery to Striker Alex Price at point in the second over, sending the opener on her way for one.

Just as No.3 Chloe Piparo attempted to lift the run rate, she was caught at mid-off. Capped Australian Nicole Bolton fell the very next ball, leaving the Scorchers reeling at 3-23 after five overs with Megan Schutt on a hat-trick.

Left handers Jemma Barsby and Georgia Redmayne kick-started the rebuild for the Scorchers, with the pair adding 50 as they pushed Perth close to three figures. Redmayne cleared the rope off the bowling of Sarah Coyte, before scoring another boundary in what was a big 14th over.

Barsby’s knock of 31 came to an end when WBBL player of the tournament Sophie Devine bowled the No.5 in the third last over

Redmayne raised her bat after reaching 50, but was run out just balls later as the Scorchers stuttered in the final few overs to end of 7-126.
